Farm Cottage B&B

I was traveling to Denmark with DFDS from Harwich and stayed at this little cosy B&B for 2 nights before departing for Denmark.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the level of service that I experienced. Andy let me arrive a day early with a scooter for storage at the B&B at no additional cost so that I could have all my belongings at Harwich early and this allowed me time to drive back to Oxford with my rental and take my time the next day for the travel to Harwich.
Andy even picked me up from the train-station and drove me to the B&B. And 2 days later he drove me and my luggage down to the harbor to ease my traveling. All at no extra cost to me.

The service was excellent and it seemed like Andy and his spouse wanted to go out of their way to make my stay pleasant.
The breakfast and dinner were very good and if there is any downside to be mentioned it would have to be that the portions were too big. :)

The internet at their place worked well and the room and toilets were very nice and adequate in size.
Andy let me know that if I needed anything then I should not hesitate to let him know and told me that if I wanted to help myself for tee or coffee then I was welcome to do so at any time.

The only guests that might experience any inconvenience at this wonderful B&B would have to be handicapped guests. The stairs are quite steep but not too steep for guests for normal mobility.

The B&B was clean and tidy and felt very homely. The garden surrounding it was spacious and I can only imagine how nice it looks now that the summer is upon us.
Andy and his spouse also have quite an extensive knowledge of the hiking-routes in the area and recommended some routes to me even though I did not go hiking these days.

All in all a place that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing stay at a country-B&B where they really understand the meaning of the word service.

The 'Farm house' B&B is a real jewel for the Harwich area. Our host Andy was very warm and friendly & looked after all our needs at the B&B a long with fantastic links to & from Harwich terminal. (Rob spent a total of three night at Farm Cottage during August 2009) - When telling what I came for to England, walking, Andy told about a nearby path was of great charm, I decided to pass along again on my way back to do the path. I really enjoyed it and also, what Andy told about the scenery of the area, it is really worth not to haste away from here so quickly on arrival, but take time to discover the natural beauties of the surroundings. Three couple from the USA met for the first time at Farm Cottage for their overnight stay and transfers to the 'Jewel of the Sea' prior to their Westbound Transatlantic Cruise.

(Email) - "My husband and I stayed at the Farm Cottage B & B the night before our cruise home to the US. I was a bit unsure about this accommodation upon arrival to Harwich but the moment I spoke with Andy on the phone I knew everything would be fine. He came to the ferry terminal to pick us up just as he promised and offered us a nice cup of tea and refreshments before showing us to our room. Our room was small, but very clean and comfortable complete with a TV and DVD player. Andy has an extensive DVD library as well as book collection that he makes available to all his guests. The next morning we had a wonderful home cooked traditional English breakfast. Andy is a very good cook as well as gracious host. After breakfast, he made arrangements to get us to the cruise terminal in plenty of time to register. Andy and his B & B far exceeded our expectations and we would certainly stay there again when in Harwich."

I chose Farm Cottage B&B from the website, as it was cheaper than any of the others, and provided the service of meeting me at the (train) station, and taking me to my cruise ship the following morning - and as it was only for one night, it didn't matter if the room was slightly under par. "you get what you pay for", someone told me cynically.

Imagine my delight when Andy met me as planned, brought me to this lovely cottage, made me a cup of coffee, offered me a slice of his delicious home-made bread pudding, and showed me to my clean, cosy, dear little bedroom, which contains everything I could possibly want. I'm very sorry now that I am only staying for one night.

It is indeed like coming to stay with an old friend, and Andy certainly does have a gift for putting people at their ease. I am sure he will be successful at whatever he turns his hand to, and I wish him good luck in all his ventures. Peggy from England 3rd September 2009.

I arrived at Harwich at 2030 from Holland on my motorbike. I had arranged to stay at Farm Cottage and continue my journey to London the next day. Boy, was I glad, the road coming out of Harwich is 2 lane unlit and very dangerous for motorcyclists with all the cars roaring past. I arrived to a very friendly welcome and a superb hot meal. Andy went out of his way to make my visit a great one. Breakfast was also fantastic so I can whole heatedly recommend this B&B to everyone. You won't be disappointed. 5 Stars Andy

“Andy is a generous host who makes you feel very welcome and was there to greet us on our arrival, and help with the luggage. Farm Cottage is a delightfully placed Bed & Breakfast, with wonderful scenery around it, and inside the building is tastefully decorated, with comfortable rooms and a real “homely” feel to the whole place. There is nothing that is too much trouble for the owner, and Andy is a decent man who makes your stay enjoyable. The cooked breakfast was excellent and there is a great selection of books and DVD’s to read and watch if one wants too. We have no reservations in recommending Farm Cottage as a suitable place for people to stay at”
